Slowly, it dawned on me that nothing was more important than stopping violence toward women–that the desecration of women indicated the failure of human beings to honor and protect life and that this failing would, if we did not correct it, be the end of us all. I do not think I am being extreme. When you rape, beat, maim, mutilate, burn, bury, and terrorize women, you destroy the essential life energy of the planet. You force what is meant to be open, trusting, nurturing, creative, and alive to be bent, infertile, and broken. . Eve Ensler
About This Quote

On January 25, 1977, a man named James Thompson entered a church in Springfield, Oregon. He opened fire on the women inside the church, killing two of them. Thompson had already committed other violent acts against women. Not long after the shootings he had been convicted of raping a woman and sentenced to life in prison.

When he was released from prison, he set out to kill as many women as he could. The Bible’s Old Testament says that God sends prophets to speak to people to give them warning of coming disasters or wars. Some people believe that these disasters are meant to teach us lessons about living better lives.
